The compositional-caloric system of the picture created by the team of authors to the All-Union Artistic Exhibition of 1950 is completely and completely subordinate to the idea of representing the leader of the state as the inspirer and organizer of the greatest victories. The front staircase leading up, the hands of the applauding crowd, the open doors, symbolizing the breakthrough into infinity, and successfully directed lighting convey the mudding mood of those present as possible. Stalin appears in a radiant halo, like a celestial, descending to the crowd, close and inaccessible at the same time.
In the direct environment of the leader are prominent members of the party and government (n. A. Bulganin, a. AND. Mikoyan, a. A. Andreev, l. P. Beria, c. M. Molotov, a. N. Kosygin and others), famous military leaders and pilots (to. E. Voroshilov, and. N. Kozhedub, a. AND. Pokryshkin), leaders of production (a. G. Stakhanov), as well as prominent scientists – President of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR Physicist with. AND. Vavilov and Director of the Institute of Genetics of the USSR TS. D. Lysenko. This “meeting” of academicians Vavilov and Lysenko (depicted on the left, behind the railing of the stairs) is one of the many paradoxes of the Stalinist time. It is known that the brother of Sergei Vavilov Nikolay, the most prominent geneticist, founder and director of the Institute of Genetics, was in 1940 not without the help of Trofim Lysenko, who began the struggle against classical genetics, arrested and died in prison in 1943 in prison. Lysenko, after his arrest, headed the institute and completed the defeat of genetics. Further on the canvas, representatives of numerous peoples inhabiting the Soviet Union, children and typical representatives of the masses follow the canvas. Thus, the ideology “man – crowd – leader” finds a canonical incarnation here. (A. L.)
