The artist – Pimenov
Military tests (1941–1945) greatly influenced the work of Pimenov; The artist-lyricist changed his bright cheerful gamut of the 1930s to the harsh palette of heavy military everyday life. He created many dramatic female images that develop in a lyrical-pathetic poem about a Russian woman.
The painting “Autumn Station” most fully reflected the complex experiences of the author on the threshold of war and the world. An ordinary life episode, strengthened by emotionally thin psychological notes, especially reverently conveys the exciting topic of returning home from evacuation, to a peaceful life; restrained optimism and faith in the revival of the country. Almost monochrome colorful gamma, the reliability of the details – gray nodes, a bottle of milk in a bag behind the back, a wet platform, a gripproof grill – only emphasize the hill and monumentality of the female image – as if it personifies the vitality of the victorious people, hope for a happy future.
